The former President John Dramani Mahama has asked delegates to vote decisively for aspirants who are prepared to recapture power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 general election.
In a Facebook post to extend his good wishes to the aspirants, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer said:
“To you our dear Delegates, the power is in your hands. Let’s select the best candidates who are ready and willing to serve you and your communities, work for you and campaign with you to wrestle power from the NPP in 2020.”
” It’s decision day, and I wish all our comrades contesting to represent our great party in the 2020 parliamentary elections the best of luck”, he added.
Mr. Mahama also prayed for a successful election, devoid of unfortunate incidents.
“Vote for the best candidates and I pray for an incident-free election. Best of luck”, Mahama said.
NDC decides today
Voting is already underway in 157 constituencies were 524 aspirants are battling it out to win the party’s mandate to stand as the parliamentary candidate in the 2020 elections.
The NDC suspended the primaries in Asawase, Ellembelle, Fanteakwa North, Mpohor and Yilo Krobo constituencies.
There is also be no election in 39 other constituencies where incumbent Members of Parliaments or aspirants are contesting unopposed.
Six aspirants in the primaries were disqualified a few days to the polls.
No phones at polling centres
Ahead of the polls, the Party issued some directives to ensure peace at the centre including barring the agents of the various parliamentary aspirants from carrying phones near voting booths at the centres.
The voters will also not be allowed to carry phones when going to vote.
The centres are also supposed to be campaign free zones.
