The management and student leaders of the Accra Technical University have taken an initiative aimed at protecting students against sexual harassment in the school.
This was revealed at the University’s 19th congregation by the Vice-chancellor, Professor Samuel Nii Odia.
This comes after some lecturers at the University of Ghana, Legon, and the University of Lagos were implicated in a BBC documentary titled ‘Sex for Grades’ which captured them allegedly enagaged in inappropriate relations with their female students

He also assured their evening students of their safety and comfort as the school has partnered with Aayalolo to convey students from the school to their various homes.
“Our students are now enjoying Aayalolo shuttles from campus, right from the front of the auditorium to their homes. We are on the route to Kasoa, Amasaman, Adenta; we go through the motorway to Ashiaman and to Tema community 1 through the beach road.”
The University has also launched the ‘student entrepreneurship club” in collaboration with the Ministry of Business development to cushion students who want to start their own business.
As part of government’s vision at revamping technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions to breach the gap between education and industry, the government in investing some monies into the construction of TVET centres of excellence
According to him re-tooling, infrastructure upgrading and funding to various TVET institutions would help attract more youth.
“The strategy of the government of Ghana is, therefore, to expand technical and vocational opportunities at both secondary and tertiary levels and thereby strengthen the linkages between education and industry, as well as give opportunities for the youth to deploy their skill and employ themselves.”
“Under the infrastructure support programme for TVET the government is investing substantial amount of money, in constructing TVET centres of excellence in 13 training institutions across the country.
