The management of the Regional Maritime University wants stakeholders to come to their aid during this COVID-19 period.
According to them, the pandemic has affected the institution’s finances.
Addressing the 14th congregation of the university, Vice-Chancellor of RMU, Professor Elvis Nyarko commended the government for its support.
“I must recommend the Republics of the Gambia and Liberia for fulfilling fully their financial obligations, as well as the Republic of Cameroon, for partly paying their member state contribution to the university in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. I will like to also commend the government of the Republic of Ghana for the support received so far.”
“It is worth noting that the government of Ghana fully funded the fumigation of the campus and provided personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff and students to help ensure that the university was ready to resume school activities. It is our hope that other member states will soon provide COVID-19 support as well”.
Special guest of honour for the congregation, former Rector of the Regional Maritime University, Dr. Capt. Aaron Obeng Turkson supported the call made by the management of the institution.
“I call on all stakeholders of RMU particularly member states, teaching and non-teaching staff and students to give management of the institution the needed support to enable them stir the affairs and deliver on its mandate. These times are times that I believe governments all member countries must come in and support.”
