Students of Sang Community Day Senior High School in the Mion District of the Northern Region are appealing to the government to provide accommodation facilities in the school to enable them to avoid the of risk being knocked down by cars while trekking long distances to school.
The school, a community day SHS is sited almost 4 kilometres away from Sang town on the main Tamale-Yendi road.
Thus, students on a daily basis will have to trek on the town’s busy road; a situation that poses risk to their lives.
The establishment of the community day SHS was meant to bring secondary education to the doorstep of the citizenry.
But in recent times, students in some of these schools have been complaining about the constant commuting to and from the various schools.
Most of these schools were sited some distances away from the communities, making the movement of students difficult.
At Sang Senior High School, the situation is no different.
The school is sited on the busy Tamale- Yendi main road. Students are seen dangerously competing with cars and motorcycles as they commute to school.
Students coming from far and have no relatives in the town and find it difficult to get accommodation.
During the recent visit of the president to the area, the Mion Lana, Mahamadu Abdulai appealed to the president to consider boarding facilities for the school.
The students and community members are also making a passionate appeal to the government to come to their aid.
Citi News made attempts to contact the Mion District Assembly to see what plans they have for the students, but they declined.
