Chiefs and people of the Akpini Traditional Area in Kpando say, there are hopeful of coordinated development following the successful installation of a new paramount chief after over 3 decades.
The newly installed paramount chief, Okpekpewuokpe Akpinifia Dagadu IX, in his maiden speech as the Paramount Chief of the Akpini Traditional Area, called on “his people to put aside their differences and foster development”.
Okpekpewuokpe Torgbuiga Dagadu IX, succeeded Okpekpewuokpe Dagadu VIII, who was known in private life as Captain Komla Dra Amedewonu.
After decades of being plagued with chieftaincy related issues, which has resulted in the Akpini Traditional Area being without a recognised Paramount Chief, and not having a representative at the regional and national house of chiefs, the Traditional Area has finally put aside its differences and installed a new chief.
The newly installed Okpekpewuokpe of the Akpini Traditional Area, Togbega Dagadu IX noted that, “although the history of the Akpini Traditional Area has not been a smooth one which we can not be proud of. It is my hope the peace that we are enjoying will last for a long time”.
He appealed to his traditional leaders to put aside their differences in lieu of the development of the area.
“I want us to maintain the peace we’re currently enjoying. I want to also use this opportunity to appeal to persons of the Akpini Traditional Area to let whatever wrongs that have happened in the past be in the past.”
He added that, “let us see this day as a new chapter in our collective lives that will bring about discipline, which is the impetus for the much-needed development of the Akpini Traditional Area”.
Togbeda Dagadu IX said he believes the traditional area will succeed under his leadership and called for support from all and sundry.
“I am not oblivious of the arduous nature of the responsibility placed on me as a young man, but I know that I will succeed with the help and support of my traditional leaders and the good people of the Akpini Traditional Area”.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Chairman of the Akpini Ellite Group, Dr. Ernest Ansah said the over forty-year dispute has been a setback for the area and was thus hopeful the installation of the new chief will bring development to the area.
“This installation has brought the people together, and we believe we are all going to work closely to support the Chief as he has called for the development, and with that support, we will have one voice. For years now we don’t have a representative at the Regional and National House of Chiefs and all that we deserve has been at bay”.
“We hope to see more developmental works go on after this installation”, Dr Ernest Ansah added.
Some old students of Bishop Herman College and natives of Kpando who came to support their old student and friend also rallied their support behind the newly installed chief.
