A media personality who doubles as an Ambassador of the National Polio Campaign, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, is appealing to the government to employ nurses who are languishing at home to strengthen the human capacity to fight the fight against the Polio virus.
Her comments come on the back of recent development where the Youth Employment Agency tabled a discussion to recruit Senior High School graduates to complement the work of nurses at the various CHPS compound across the country as auxiliaries.
Speaking at the launch of the National Polio Immunization Campaign in Accra on Wednesday, August 31, she said the health sector needs human resources to achieve its targets.
“We already have things that are bearing us in the health sector. We’re still having COVID-19 and malaria to deal with. We still have all sorts of diseases and infections we have to deal with. We don’t need Polio to be a part of this”.
“So we’re here to give our support that we’re willing to do what it takes to make sure the first and second rounds are conducted successfully.”
“Since I have the Deputy Minister of Health here, may I please add my voice to the health professional, the nurses who have completed courses and are at home waiting to be deployed; that they are put to work as soon as possible.”
“It is one thing is eradicating it, and it’s another thing sustaining it and monitoring and making sure that we don’t have an outbreak. We need the human resource to get this done”.
