A 17-year-old boy named Kwabena Amos was brutally abused by his father in Salamkrom, a farming community in the Nkoransa South Municipality of the Bono East Region.
The teenager is alleged to have stolen his father’s maize from his farm, which he reportedly sold to buy a pair of shoes.
According to reports, on October 4, the 17-year-old was subjected to beatings by individuals identified as Ghana National Fire Service personnel and some Unit Committee members residing in Salamkrom, near Donkro-Nkwanta.
These individuals accused him of stealing his father’s maize to fund the purchase of footwear.
The victim is currently undergoing medical treatment at Armdfred Hospital in Nkoransa.
Dr. Julius Edem, a medical officer, assured that the victim’s injuries would be treated.
Dominic Baffoe-Adjei, the Bono and Ahafo Coordinator for Youth for Human Rights International Ghana, accompanied by senior officers from the Ghana National Fire Service Nkoranza South and Lord Kingsford Appiah, a special aide to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), visited the victim.
In an interview with Citi News, Dominic Baffoe-Adjei condemned the incident and called on the police to initiate a thorough investigation.
“We strongly condemn the brutality inflicted upon this innocent young boy,” he said. “We have officially reported the incident to the Nkoranza Police Command, and we trust that they will promptly investigate this matter.”
