Day 1 of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia got off to a start with mixed results for Team Ghana.
Abeiku Jackson and Jason Arthur made it to today’s semi-finals of the men’s 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke respectively.
They qualified as part of the best 16 swimmers from their events.
Team Ghana lost 3-0 to England in the men’s table tennis group stage match. They will face Guyana on Friday in their second and final group stage match.
Ghana lost 4-0 to Malaysia in the mixed team badminton event.
Ghana’s Abdul Wahid Omar crashed out of the games with a unanimous decision loss to Australia’s Harry Garside in the 60kg Round of 32 in the men’s boxing event while Abubakari Kwesi Quartey also lost to Merven Clair of Mauritius in the men’s 69kg event in the Round of 32.
