Sergeant Daniel Abotsi, a police officer with the Konongo Police Division in the Ashanti Region, has died in a car accident at Suhum Amanease in the Eastern Region.
The police officer, who was driving his Opel Astra was in the company of his daughter.
On reaching Amanase at Suhum on the main Accra-Kumasi Highway, he veered off his lane into the opposite direction and collided head-on with a Metro Mass Transit bus.
According to the police, Sergeant Daniel Abotsi, together with his daughter, died on the spot after the collision.
ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident to Citi News stated that the bodies of the sergeant and his daughter have been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital for autopsy, while the driver of the Metro Mass bus has been detained to assist police with their investigations.
“On April 16th at about 6:30, Sergeant Daniel Abotsi of Konongo police division was in charge of his Opel Astra driving from Accra towards Kumasi with his daughter who is yet to be identified. On reaching a section of the road at Amanase near Suhum, he veered off his lane and collided head-on with a Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number GR- 4732-Z driven by Seidu Clifford, who was also from Koforidua to Accra with passengers on board.”
“The police officer with his daughter died on the spot. The two accident vehicles have been moved from the road paving way for the free flow of traffic with arrangements being made to tow the vehicles to the police station to assist investigations.”
ASP Ebenezer Tetteh added that, “suspect driver Seidu Clifford has been detained to assist police carry out further investigations. I will use this platform to caution drivers and other road users to exercise restraint and adhere to all road regulations”.
10 feared dead in gory accident at Buipe
Barely 48-hours after nearly twenty people died in separate accidents in the Northern Region over the weekend, ten more people are feared dead in another accident at Kablipe in the Central Gonja district of the region.
The accident, which occurred today [Monday], involved a Kia truck and a VVIP bus.
336 killed in over 2,000 accidents in just two months
The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), revealed that 336 people lost their lives in road accidents in the first two months of 2018.
The Commission also stated that a total of 2,095 road crashes were recorded in January and February alone, representing a significant rise from the same period in 2017.
