The Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation (GRAF) has urged more schools to participate in competitive robotics after Ghana’s participation in the 2018 ROBOFEST World Championship held In Michigan from May 17 to 19.
Three teams; SHUT UP (Right to Dream Football Academy), GIANTBOT 1 (Ghana Secondary Technical School, GSTS) and ROID (Opoku Ware Senior High School), all senior high school level teams represented Ghana.
Overall SHUT UP came in the eighth, GIANTBOT 1 came 12th, and ROID came in 14th out of 23 competing schools.
There were also awards conferred on two of the Ghana teams. SHUT UP received one of the Innovation Awards and one of the Sporit of Robofest Awards.
ROID also received one of the Innovation Awards, and the Academy extended its congratulations in this regard.
The Foundation also entreated “many more teams to compete in the 2019 national qualifiers for ROBOFEST (likely to be held in January 2019) to have the opportunity to compete next year.”
“In that regard, teams desirous of competing ROBOFEST, Michigan in 2019 as well as in the 2018 World Robot Olympiad (WRO) to be held in Thailand in November must be finalizing the preparation by now and demonstrate their readiness to GRAF,” the foundation said in a statement.
