An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a 19-year-old unemployed man, who allegedly stole electrical cables valued at GH¢62,000.
Abdul Rauf Saeed was charged with unlawful entry and stealing.
He has admitted entering the premise without authority, but denied going there to steal as he claimed he went there to cut grass to feed his animals.
The Court presided over by Mrs Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye has therefore convicted him on his own plea, but deferred her sentence.
Saeed will make his next appearance on November 6.
Police Sergeant Benson Benneh, giving the facts said, Kingsley Kwabena Arthur, the Prosecution Witness, is a building contractor living at Kaneshie located in Accra whilst Saeed had no permanent place of abode.
Arthur was contracted by a witness in the case to put up a two-storey building for him at Lartebiokorshie, a suburb of Accra, which is almost at its completion.
On October 1, this year, at about 8:40am, the Contractor, in the company of one of his workers went to the site, only to find Saeed removing the ECG main supply metre with a pair of pliers and a hacksaw blade.
Sergeant Benneh said he was apprehended and taken round the apartment, where it was discovered that all the cables used to wire the place in addition to the pipes to the tune of GH¢62,000 had been stolen.
Saeed was then handed over to the Korle Bu Police, who also visited the scene with the accused person and also found out that all the electrical fittings were gone, leaving the meter alone.
He demonstrated to the police how he scaled the wall into the house as well as admitted entering the house unlawfully, but denied going there to steal.
Police investigations showed that there was no grass at the premises as he claimed he went there for.
After further investigations, he was processed and put before the Court, the Prosecution added.
