Police in the Salaga District in the Northern Region are on a manhunt for six persons suspected to be involved in a robbery at Salaga-Makango.
One of the suspects, 24-year-old Mohammed Adam, was arrested on site by the police to assist investigations.
Primary investigations disclosed that on Thursday at about 11 am, a distress call was received that seven armed men, two of them wielding AK 47 assault rifles and the remaining five with other weapons including single barrel guns had blocked the Salaga-Makango motor road.
Passengers on board about six vehicles were robbed of unspecified amounts of money together with other valuables.
Police patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent highway robberies and also arrest suspects.
This comes on the back of the arrest of some seven persons over a violent protest at Salaga.
The seven suspects were arrested in Salaga on Wednesday, February 13 in connection with violence in the area following the announcement of Damango as capital for the Savannah region.
They were subsequently granted bail.
