Family of Ahmed Suale, a journalist with investigative firm, TigerEye PI, who was assassinated, wants officials of the Ghana Police Service to be candid with the progress made with the arrests of persons who might have played a role in the murder of their relative.
They say they are not enthused with the manner the case is being handled by the Police service.
Narrating how they managed to arrest the two suspects on Eyewitness News, a family member Alhassan Yunus said the police never made a single arrest indicating that both arrests were effected by the family with the help of community members.

On March 15, we made the first arrest at Ridge Junction because the police said it could not get to where the suspects were because it was a very dangerous place. So we went there and made the arrest on our own and handed the first person to the police and followed them to the Madina Police Station. When we got there, they said the case was beyond them so they had to transfer it to the CID Headquarters,” Alhassan Yunus noted.
Explaining how the second suspect managed to escape, Alhassan Yunus revealed that their efforts in apprehending the suspect were rendered useless because the Police let him go upon what they said was an order from highly placed source.
“Three days later, we had a tip-off that another suspect had come around. So we called the police at Kotobabi that we were about effecting an arrest. When we got to the scene, the people around assisted us to arrest him and handed him over to the police. The police then told us to meet them at the Kotobai Police Station. We got there but they never showed up. We decided to trace them back and when we met them we realised the suspect was not with them. When we inquired, they told us that he [suspect] has called ‘someone from above’ who ordered his release which they obliged.”
Alhassan Yunus now said the family is completely puzzled despite its initial collaboration with the Police and is hoping to meet the security agency later this week to inform their next line of action.
“We didn’t want to talk about this issue but the issue they put out there wasn’t accurate. They asked us to cooperate with them which we have been doing. They are not telling us anything but look at the explanations they are giving. As at now, we don’t know what to do again, we are confused about the whole situation. But we are planning to meet and have a fresh talk with them [police] this week.”
Police denies releasing suspect after he bribed them
The Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on Tuesday described as untrue, claims by the Brong Ahafo Regional Vice Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe alias Abronye DC that one suspect who was arrested by the police and sent to the Kotobabi Police station was released after allegedly bribing the police.
She explained that an informant reported to the police that an alleged perpetrator of the crime had been spotted at a pub within the Kotobaabi community, an unarmed police officer went to effect arrest of the suspect but he encountered strong resistance from the suspect and some persons in the area.
According to her, a backup patrol team the officer called for did not arrive early and upon sensing the aggression being displayed by the suspect and those around, retreated.
“It is not accurate that the person was arrested, sent to the Kotobaabi Police Station and because he has links with somebody else, the person was granted bail… The suspect never got to the police station,” she said. The police have not gone to rest. Our officers are on the ground day and night, working so that whoever is behind the murder of Suale will be brought to justice,” she said.
