Police in the Upper East Region have confirmed the death of one student of the Sandema Secondary Technical school following clashes between the school’s cadet and local police.
According to reports, some members of the school’s cadet punished some junior students on Tuesday which led to clashes between the students.
The clashes led to the destruction of school property.
Police in Sandema were called in by school authorities to calm the situation but that resulted in fresh clashes between the police and the rioting students.
The Upper East Regional Police Commander DCOP Ampofo Duku, told Citi News that they managed to calm the situation.
He said no arrest had been made yet.
“Police tried using all available means to stop them from carrying out the violent activities but to no avail…We later had information that two students had been rushed to the hospital; a male and a female. We later learnt that the male student has passed on.”
Citi News understands that the school has been closed down.
