The Obenyah Foundation (TOF) a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), with support from the Tema District office of National Health Insurance Scheme Authority, has embarked on a free health insurance registration exercise for residents of Klagon.
Klagon is an underserved community in the newly created Tema West Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
Mr Robert Obenyah, the Executive Director of the foundation, said that they have observed that most of the residents were unable to enrol on the NHIS and as such unable to seek medical treatment when they fall sick.
The foundation has thus liaised with the Tema District office of the NHIS to register the residents of Klagon unto the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Altogether, about 317 people were benefited from the exercise either as new registrants or those whose cards had expired and were renewed.
The majority of residents who benefited from the exercise were women and children from Klagon and other adjoining communities.
Enrolment unto the NHIS and possession of the NHIS card enables individuals to get treatment and medicines for common diseases such as Malaria, Diarrhoea, Upper respiratory tract infection, skin diseases, hypertension, diabetes and asthma.
It is therefore expected that this gesture will go a long way in improving the health and general well-being of the people of Klagon and the surrounding communities.
Mr Robert Obenyah, the Executive Director of the Obenyah Foundation, advised the residents to take issues of their health seriously in order for them to live healthier and more productive lives.
He also expressed his profound gratitude to the management and staff of the Tema District office of the NHIA.
