The 4TH Garrison Keep Fit Club has presented items worth GHS50,000 to the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate, the Kumasi Central Prisons and an Orphanage in the Ashanti Region.
The items included; 100 gallons of hand sanitizers, 15,000 pieces of hand gloves, nose masks, 30 pieces of Veronica Buckets and 20 bundles of tissue paper.
Other items included; 10 boxes of parazone, 20 gallons of liquid soap, 40 bags of rice, two maxi bags of Gari, 10 big size gallons of cooking oil, 100 crates of eggs, 400 bags of sachet water and 42 boxes of Vitamin-C tablets.
The Club said there was the need for benevolent individuals and organizations to support Government as part of efforts to contain the spread of Coronavirus which has already claimed some lives in Ghana.
Chairman of the Club, Akwasi Badu while handing over the items to the Ashanti Regional Minister explained that members of the Club were concern about the spread of the virus across the world and Ghana and it was important to support authorities at the forefront of the fight.
“Members of this Club have observed and appreciated efforts by government in the fight against the virus, but have to support the state to win the fight against the virus in the country”, he said
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, who received the items on behalf of Government expressed appreciation for the gesture and urged members of the Club to continue to support the Government in these trying times.
The Minister indicated that health workers in the region are working so hard and they have so far identified hotspots within the region which are recording increasing numbers of the virus.
He called on other organisations to emulate such gestures and reiterated that the fight against the pandemic must be done with concerted efforts.
Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service(GHS), Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang also thanked members of the Club for the gesture.
