A non-governmental organization, the International Facility Management Association has donated 500 nose masks and posters to drivers of the Tema and 37 lorry stations in Accra.
The Association donated 300 nose masks to the Tema lorry station and 200 to the 37 lorry station over the weekend.
Drivers and passengers were also taken through the proper procedures of wearing the nose masks correctly.
They were also educated on the importance of wearing a nose mask.
President of the Association, Samson Opare Agyemang said the gesture was one of the association’s way of doing their bid to support drivers and passengers during this era of COVID 19 to prevent the spread.
“We are doing this as our little support to the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19. We selected this place because as you can see the place is very congested and we realized that a lot of people come to this area and travel to other areas. If someone is affected here, the person can easily move to a different community and the spread will continue. Our targets are the drivers and passengers. We want to educate them and enforce the use of the face mask”, he said.
The drivers who received the items expressed gratitude and acknowledged the importance of the nose masks to stop the spread.
The Chairman of the New Tema, Nii Walakatade IV said the donation is going to help the drivers and passengers prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“I was very happy about the donation and education because it is going to help the drivers and passengers to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and also help drivers and passengers use the nose mask properly,” he said.
