The Member of Parliament for Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong says he will retain the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming polls with not less than 85 percent of the total valid votes cast.
According to him, the quality of service delivered in his first term as a legislator especially in terms of job creation puts him in the position to massively win the parliamentary election.
“There have been significant developments in the constituency principally because of who I am and the kind of lobbying, I have engaged and the leverage I have managed to put to use. I have made an impact in the last three-quarter years. I can say boldly that I have scored a first when it comes to an MP facilitating jobs for the youth in that particular constituency. As we speak today, I have gone past one thousand jobs. And all these are public sector jobs,” he said.
Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong who served as Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to India in the Kufuor Administration in the 2016 parliamentary election polled 36,532 representing 76.24 percent of the votes.
His closest competitor, Mohammed Kojo Aboasu of the NDC polled 10,214 representing 21.38 percent of the total valid votes cast.
On his chances in the upcoming elections, Mr. Sarpong says “this year I am looking at 85 percent, I am looking at what is happening on the ground, the enthusiasm and the people who recognize that there has been true development and my record of finding jobs for constituents. I have no doubt that the margins will increase”.
In a related development, Mr. Sarpong congratulated the Mamponhemaa Nana Agyakoma Difie II on her re-appointment to the National Peace Council.
“Congratulations once again for being a good ambassador of Kontonkyi and for making Mampong proud. You have been of great service to your community and country. You deserve recognition and reappointed. It is and shall be well with you. Stay blessed in the Lord,” a statement from him read.
