Some personnel at the Mamprobi District of the Ghana Fire Service could not cast their ballot today as their names could not be found on the special voters’ list.
Reacting to the issue, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije called on the Electoral Commission to rectify the situation.
“I have received complaints from so many personnel who have been assigned responsibilities on December 7, whose names cannot be found in the special voters’ list. That is a major concern because if these persons who are going to be at post on election day are not allowed to vote today when else can they? I think that something should be done about it.”
Meanwhile, security personnel who turned up to vote at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters and could not find their names in the special voters’ list have been asked to vote at their respective polling stations on December 7, 2020.
Some of the disappointed personnel told Citi News on condition of anonymity that they will comply with the instructions from the electoral officers.
The EC earlier dismissed claims that the names of more than 60 percent of security officers intended to participate in the special voting exercise are missing from their register when it was first raised by Security analyst, Adam Bona.
Mr. Bona on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, sounded the alarm that over 60 percent of the security personnel being deployed for election 2020 duties do not have their names in the special voting list.
The Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Dr. Serebour Quarcoo indicated that the Commission had already compiled the list of special voters and it is very unlikely that such omissions or additions will occur.
