The perception that sexual intercourse cannot be had after pregnancy has been debunked by two health practitioners.
Speaking on the Season 9, Episode 8 of the Vodafone Healthline Series, Cardiologist, Dr. Aba Folson said sexual intercourse after childbirth will not be advisable only in situations where there were some complications during the delivery process.
“With sexual intercourse after delivery, usually the only time medical advice comes in to bring some limitation is after surgery or when you have had some trauma.
“That wound [after child delivery] is supposed to heal so if you do not allow it to heal properly and there is a lot of strain that causes so many problems. That is why medically it is advised that you avoid all forms of sexual activities then you can cautiously ease into these activities.”
Medical Practitioner, Dr. Kwekuma Yalley on the other hand said women who go through “vagina delivery” can engage in sexual intercourse when they are ready.
The next session of the show focused on the tragic story of Madam Dzikunu who keeps losing her babies due to a fibroid in her uterus.
Vodafone assisted her to undergo surgery to resolve the problem.
A pediatric oncologist at Korle Bu, Dr Nihad Salifu was also on the show to discuss childhood cancers.
She indicated that although all the causes of childhood cancers are not outrightly known, there are other causative factors such as genetic predisposition or viruses.
“Cancer can form anywhere from the head to toe. Most childhood cancers we do not know the cause. There are a few that we do know. There are some germs called viruses like hepatitis B which can be prevented by vaccination. HIV is also known to be associated with some cancers,” she explained.
She also pointed out that unlike adulthood cancers, childhood cancers can be easily cured through early detection and vaccination.
Fitness Coach, Maabena rounded up the show with a few exercises.
