The Member of Parliament for the Bunkpurugu constituency, Bandim Abednego Azumah is visiting communities in his constituency for a face-to-face “thank you” tour since he won the 2020 elections.
Mr. Abednego, a first-time aspirant unseated Solomon Boar who was heading for his third term bid as MP for the Bunkpurugu constituency.
Abednego polled 18,023 votes against his main contender, Solomon Boar who got 16, 689 votes. A third aspirant, Dimongso Benjamin Kafari, got 382 votes.
The MP said due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he does not intend to risk his lives by organizing thank you rallies in the constituency but instead, he decided to meet the constituents face-to-face to show his appreciation.
So far, the MP has toured more than 25 communities and several churches and mosques in the constituency to thank them for their massive support of his candidature.
Some of the communities toured already include Tonjing, Badimsurugu, Boaterigu, Boaguri and Badilong among others.
At Boaguri, the residents led by their elders appealed to the MP to drill more boreholes for the community which often experiences water crisis during the dry season.
“The boreholes in our community do not yield sufficient water. The women spend a longer time getting a few litres of water. They even fight over water at the boreholes. If you get the chance, don’t forget to help solve this huge problem”, appealed Boaguri – Daana, a sub-chief.
The Bunkpurugu constituency has the worst forms of roads, dilapidated school infrastructure, and widespread water scarcity including fewer health facilities.
Each of the communities visited by the MP presented their needs seeking for solutions.
Health facilities
There nearly 42,000 inhabitants in the Bunkpurugu constituency according to statistics with fewer health facilities.
Whilst paying visitations to some sick persons at some health facilities, the MP called for the construction of CHPS compound at Bimbagu area in order to serve the people better.
“I am going to work hard in order to bring the needed developments to my communities”, the MP assured the residents of Bimbagu in his native Bimoba language.
The Bunkpurugu—Nakpanduri District is yet to have a district hospital, and it is only the Faith Community Hospital, a private facility, which is offering immediate health care to the people under limited resources.
Solidarity
Part of his tour took him to the homes of some accident victims who are currently nursing fractures obtained during the 2020 election campaigns.
He empathized with the victims and their families and made some cash donations in support of their upkeep.
Parliament is currently on recess and the MP is using the opportunity to embark on more visitations in his constituency.
