The 1998-Year Group of the Rev. John Teye Memorial Institute has handed over a sickbay to the school in Accra.
The handing over ceremony was held over the weekend.
Speaking at the short ceremony, Mr. Joshua Opoku Agyemang, the year group president said the project which cost over GHS25,000, will serve as a first-aid facility for students who fall sick.
“As old students, we had on the table a couple of projects we wanted to give off to the school. While brainstorming on what to do, we decided to build a sickbay for the school, so students could have their first aid there. So when we spoke to the management of the school about our intention, they gave us the green light,” he said.
Mr. Opoku Agyemang said the project was funded with contributions from the old students of the 1998-year group.
The General Manager of the Rev. John Teye Memorial Institute, Afaribea Ofori, who was elated over the project, said the facility was timely.
“To see the 1998-year group coming in to build this wonderful facility for us is a dream come through. Initially, we were thinking about how to get a place as an isolation centre amidst the COVID outbreak. So when they came to tell us that this is what they wanted to do for us, we were really enthused. Indeed, we are so happy to have it,” she said.
She further urged other year groups to emulate the gesture.
