The Lekpongunor Landing Beach Committee (LBC) has commissioned a three-unit classroom block for the Kolikpo Basic School in the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.
While commissioning the structure, District Chief Executive for the area, Mr. Teye Doku lauded the effort of Lekpongunor LBC who he noted had impressed him with their judicious utilization of the 53% Premix Fuel sales margin earmarked for community projects in fishing communities.
“Many thanks to the National Premix Fuel Secretariat and its leadership for the continuous supply of Premix Fuel to this area, which has culminated in the ability of the LBC to put up this important structure. Admittedly, education is the bedrock of society hence, I am hugely impressed to see such an investment that will undeniably improve the fortunes of education in this area and support the dreams and aspirations of our youngsters for a better tomorrow.”
Nana Abrokwa Asare, Administrator of the National Premix Fuel Secretariat (NPFS) praised the Lekpongunor LBC for their efforts and assured them of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development’s continued support for all LBCs in the area of adequate Premix Fuel supply and other allied logistics.
He harped on the need for LBCs around the country to utilize funds accrued from the sale of Premix Fuel for basic community projects that promote rural development.
“On behalf of the Honourable Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, I wish to congratulate you all for working collaboratively to achieve this feat. Every little investment in education is a big step towards societal growth, hence your decision to put up this structure is an investment into the future of the young people of this community. What you have done today is not only a testament of your efficiency as a Landing Beach Committee in this area, you are a fine example of what we expect all LBCs around the country to do.”
Nana Asare pointed out that Mavis Hawa Koomson has an ardent interest in seeing that LBCs contribute meaningfully to community growth through the judicious utilisation of 53% of Premix Fuel sale proceeds which is reserved for community development as stipulated by L.I. 2233.
The sector minister further reiterated the need for LBCs to become more accountable and foresightedly in how proceeds from 53% Premix Fuel sales margins are applied for community development projects.
Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) are locally instituted bodies authorised to oversee the sale of Premix Fuel in fishing communities.
Aside their principal role of Premix Fuel sale and management, they also have the mandate to invest 53% of monies accrued from the sale of the product into relevant community projects.
This year, LBCs have made commendable progress with projects. In Tema Manhean, a hostel facility with a capacity of 900 students has recently been completed.
The Oshiyie LBC also recently donated 100 mono-desks and a water system consisting a tank and a reservoir to the Oshiyie Basic School.
