The top 10 finalists of the 2021 edition of Citi FM‘s educational program, ‘The Literacy Challenge’, are being equipped with relevant knowledge and skills aimed at setting them on the path to a great future.
This is part of a series of mentorship sessions organizers of the competition are holding to groom all the finalists for the grand finale and beyond.
Some facilitators include popular Ghanaian rapper, M.anifest, Head of the Vodafone Ghana Foundation, Reverend Amaris Nana Agyei Pebi, and Head of Research at Citi FM/Citi TV, Nathan Quao.
Others are Gloria Kankam, one of the examiners, and Eugenia Tachie-Menson, Country Director of the Young Educators Foundation.
The rest included Anis Haffar, renowned Ghanaian Educationist, Irwin Cofie, Deputy Head Sales and Marketing, SIC Insurance PLC, Joel Dougan and Courage Nobi, both examiners of the competition.
The mentors made use of the participants’ feedback to tweak the various session topics to boost the morale and general confidence of all the finalists.
With their wealth of experience, the mentors shared their challenges, successes, motivations as well as the things that make it possible for them to excel with the contestants.
That was not all, the finalists have been prepped psychologically, in order for them to overcome any mental blocks and emotional stress not only during the grand finale quiz but also for life.
The students were taken through some activities aimed at helping them identify their potentials and possible careers. There were also lessons to boost their vocabulary and grammar.
The top ten finalists of the 2021 edition of The Literacy Challenge since Wednesday, September 15, have been camping at the La Villa Boutique Hotel in preparations for the finals of the competition.
This is part of scheduled activities lined up as the finalists gear up ahead of the grand finale on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Alisa Hotel.
It is strictly by invitation, in compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.
The finalists also embarked on a familiarization tour of Citi FM/Citi TV and have had two coaching sessions.
The Literacy Challenge
The Literacy Challenge is a three-level, nationwide, contest-style campaign that promotes literacy in Ghana and which targets Junior High School students.
All ten finalists will be competing in a classic quiz competition. The winner of the quiz walks away with GHS10,000 as well as other prizes from the sponsors.
In addition, the winner will become the Vodafone Ghana Foundation’s National Instant Schools‘ Ambassador.
This year, interested participants wrote an essay on the topic: “As an aspiring presidential candidate, in not less than 600 words, write a convincing manifesto speech that is intended to fix the country and to bring hope in political governance.”
The competition is powered by 97.3 Citi FM, with support from Citi TV.
It is sponsored by SIC Insurance and the Vodafone Ghana Foundation as part of the Kindred Partners.
