Some angry youth of Agona Nyarkrom in the Central Region have besieged the Nana Ampiawkoko Palace and ripped off portions of its roof in a bid to steal a black stool in a protracted chieftaincy dispute.

Elders of the community according to Citi News sources had to run for cover for fear of being attacked.

The incident is said to have taken place around 6:00 am on Wednesday. “The angry youth managed to rip off sections of the Nana Ampiawkoko Palace roof, but it is unclear if they were able to steal the black stool. The situation caused parts of the palace to be flooded by rain,” a spokesperson of the traditional council, Nana Ekow Mensah, told Citi News.

According to Ekow Mensah, elders of the traditional council including the Abusapanyin of the palace had to run for cover for fear of being attacked by the angry mob.

“The Leadership of the traditional council had to run for cover for fear of being lynched by the angry mob who besieged the palace. For now, we are waiting for the police to intervene in the matter since we have reported the matter to them and the Agona Nyarkrom Traditional Council,” Nana Mensah added.

For residents of the town including women and children, they have been terrified by the incident, and are calling on the police to arrest the perpetrators.

An elderly woman of the community who gave her name as Nana Adjoa, lamented the difficult situation women and children are faced with indicating that the angry youth were wielding machetes and guns posing danger to them.

“We are all afraid and have gone into hiding. We want the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and his men to intervene before an unfortunate incident happens. We have five stool gates and so one gate cannot claim ownership of everything” Nana Adjoa said.
