Ghanaian boxer, Samuel Takyi, has been voted the Sports Personality of the Year at the 2022 edition of the Entertainment Achievements Awards.

The 22-year-old beat stiff competition from track and field star Benjamin Azamati, footballers Kamaldeen Sulemana, Mohammed Salisu, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Salifu Ibrahim as well as swimmer Abeiku Jackson.

Takyi became the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic medal for the first time in 29 years when he claimed bronze at the Tokyo Games last year.

His medal was also the first boxing medal Ghana has won since 1972.
