Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Stephen Pambiin Jalulah, along with various government agencies, conducted a field visit on Thursday to Tinguri in the West Mamprusi District of the North East Region.
The purpose of the visit was to assess the extent of damage caused by Wednesday’s heavy rainfall, which had adversely affected multiple communities in the area. The storm resulted in the destruction of farms and properties.
During the visit, Deputy Minister expressed his sympathy towards the affected individuals and pledged a prompt response to restore connectivity to the road network, thereby rejuvenating the local economic activities.
The North East Region was hit by a severe rainstorm on Wednesday, causing significant damage to both lives and properties.
Numerous homes were flooded, resulting in the displacement of many residents. Furthermore, the storm caused the collapse of several bridges that connected various communities, leaving people stranded.
North East Regional Minister Zakaria Yidana announced that dredging work at dam sites will commence soon to prevent future incidents.
He also mentioned that plans are underway to construct standard spillways at various dams to mitigate potential occurrences of this nature.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is currently assessing the extent of damage to farms and properties. This assessment aims to quantify the financial losses incurred and determine the necessary support for the affected individuals.
Alhaji Baba Issifu Seidu, the Member of Parliament for Nalerigu, expressed appreciation for the quick temporary solution provided by the government.
He hoped for the implementation of permanent solutions to benefit the region’s residents. He also stressed the importance of adequately resourcing NADMO to effectively handle similar emergencies in the future.
