The Wa Circuit Court on Monday, August 7, remanded a 35-year-old man for allegedly defiling 12 children in Wa, the Upper West regional capital.
The accused, Rashid Ahmed, aged 35, is set to appear again in a court presided over by Jonathan Avogo on Monday, August 14. He faces 12 counts of defilement charges brought against him by the Upper West regional police CID.
Rashid Ahmed was apprehended last Friday after an extensive investigation conducted by personnel from the Upper West regional police CID.
According to police sources, he had been evading capture for the past two months following a report from a resident of Wa who accused him of defiling over 20 children within the town. News of his arrest quickly spread throughout the Wa township.
On Monday, August 7, a significant number of parents, family members of the alleged defiled girls, and individuals from various backgrounds gathered at the Wa Circuit Court. Their presence was to catch a glimpse of the accused and to observe the legal proceedings.
The Upper West regional director of the Department of Children praised the efforts of the police and urged residents in the region to expose individuals whose actions negatively impact the development of children
