The representative from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) to Ghana, Dr. Yurdi Yasmi, has reaffirmed the organization’s support in ensuring efficient water supply and usage in the northern regions of the country.
He said this at the media launch of the World Food Day themed, “Water is life, water is food, leave no one behind,” held in Accra.
Dr. Yasmi said the FAO would partner with the government to raise awareness and implement green technologies to contribute further to the success of the project.
“First, every year we raise awareness of the importance of water not only for food but for our very being and continuity to live in this world. Without water, there will be no life. In fact, one of our programs is called sustainable agriculture. What we mean is to promote best practices, produce more with less, and introduce new technologies and innovations in agriculture.
“Secondly, we are raising awareness to different actors, including the government. Governments cannot achieve sustainable water use or management by themselves. We advocate to governments to develop policies in such a way that water management can be sustainable,” he stated.
