Let’s collaborate to address educational challenges presented by Akosombo dam spillage – Adutwum

The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has urged the chiefs and residents of Mepe to collaborate with the Ministry to address the educational challenges presented by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

Hundreds of residents in Mepe in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region are facing a severe crisis after the Akosombo Dam spillage led to the flooding of their homes.

Formal education in many parts of the region has been halted as a result of the devastating impact of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Speaking at an engagement with stakeholders in the education sector and leaders of the Mepe Traditional Council on Tuesday, Dr. Adutwum emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to ameliorate the plight of students and teachers in the area.

“We are going to work together so that one day we will have a story to tell. And that story should be that in the midst of all the challenges, we worked together, we accommodated each other, we worked together, and together we made Mepe a better place than before the disaster. That is my commitment that out of the ashes, something great will come out of it.”

“So even though we went through challenges, one day we will say that something bad happened to us, and because of that, we even did better, so the anger should go down. Education is why we are here, and I can assure you that we will solve your educational challenges and go beyond what you see today to a better place for Mepe. So that this will be to the credit of Togbe and everyone here,” Dr. Adutwum stated.
