The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has responded to the Special Prosecutor’s (SP) recent criticism of the judiciary, urging him to utilize established legal avenues instead of resorting to public pronouncements.
On November 29, 2023, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Adjebeng, expressed concerns during a press conference about “dismissive judicial decisions” hindering his office’s cases.
But JUSAG, in a December 1 statement, countered the SP’s remarks, emphasizing that the courts operate independently and are not beholden to any individual or institution.
They advised the SP and “legal luminaries” to engage in constructive dialogue and utilize judicial review mechanisms.
“The OSP and legal luminaries ought to support the Courts and the Judiciary to broaden the frontiers of the justice system through judicial review. Instead of resorting to only the press briefing which does not change the ‘wrong’ judicial precedence supposedly claimed by the SP, his office, the legal system and the people of Ghana are better served if he explores the avenues of judicial review provided in the Constitution of Ghana.”
