The Ghana Association of Banks, in partnership with United Way Ghana, has made another generous donation of relief items to victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage in the Agbetikpo and Torkpo communities as part of phase 2 of their relief campaign support.
In October this year, United Way Ghana partnered with the Ghana Association of Banks to donate relief items to victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage in Mepe.
This donation event took place at the Agbetikpo holding center, located in the North Tongu District.
Official statistics from the Emergency Operation Center indicate that a total of 65 communities in the North Tongu district were affected by the flooding. The estimated number of affected individuals stands at approximately 12,265.
The donation has benefited over 250 individuals, providing them with essential relief items.
Thanks to the generous contribution from the Ghana Association Banks, in collaboration with United Way Ghana, a wide range of relief items were donated.
These items included mattresses and pillows, detergents, toiletries, comfortable blankets, sanitary pads, sanitizers, and many other essential supplies.
During a brief ceremony to hand over the items to the residents at the holding center, Audrey Mireku, representing the Ghana Association of Banks, explained that this donation was prompted by the dire situation faced by the flood victims, many of whom had lost their livelihoods.
Some select staff from the various partner banks joined United Way Ghana in the donation exercise which also included a mentorship session for students and pupils at the Agbetikpo D/A Basic Schools.
The interim Executive Director for United Way Ghana, Faustina Abbey in explaining the rationale behind the donation said, the donation was to provide the necessary support to empower victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage.
She also hinted of advanced plans for a phase 3 of their relief support program.
“As an organization that believes in creating opportunities for every individual to thrive, we see the partnership with Ghana Association of Banks as a conduit that is providing a support system to empower the victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage disaster to recover and rehabilitate” said Faustina Abbey, the interim Executive Director of United Way Ghana.
