The Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapim South, Frank Aidoo, has petitioned the party’s leadership to allow him to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries on Saturday, January 27, 2024, following the withdrawal of the incumbent MP from the race.
Frank Aidoo was disqualified from contesting the primaries after he challenged the sitting MP, O.B Amoah.
OB Amoah on Tuesday, withdrew from the polls, paving the way for only two aspirants to contest, citing personal interest and his action, which is in the interest of the party.
However, the MCE has described the grounds for his disqualification as unfair, requesting an opportunity to contest in the race.
The Eastern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Anthony Osei-Adjei, suggested to the party to act on the petition swiftly.
“He should be considered to be added to the aspirants to run. After the MP had withdrawn from the race. And he has brought up a petition, I think it will be fair for the National Party to look at the matter again and give him a hearing. If they consider him fit to run. They cannot put that election on hold, and then reconsider the petition he has filed. And if they agree, they will ask him to be part of the election,” the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NPP opined.
