Former Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Salifu Sa-eed, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Bimbilla constituency to prioritize peace and unity amidst the party’s parliamentary primaries leading up to the 2024 general elections.
He stressed the importance of fostering unity, acknowledging the diversity of opinions and interests among party members. Mr. Sa-eed emphasized that despite varying perspectives, NPP supporters should set aside their differences to strengthen the party’s position in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary polls.
In his address, he stated, “Ladies and gentlemen, unity is paramount. Bimbilla constituency needs unity. In every democratic contest, as Bob Marley aptly put it, ‘many are called but few are chosen.’ People express their interests differently, but at the end of the day, even in the face of legal challenges, we must come together, patch ourselves up, and coexist in peace.”
The call for unity from the former Regional Minister follows a series of protests and agitations by NPP supporters dissatisfied with the incumbent Member of Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul, going unopposed in the party’s primaries.
During the acclamation of Dominic Nitiwul as the 2024 Parliamentary candidate on Sunday, January 21, 2024, Mr. Sa-eed justified the strategy of allowing the lawmaker to go unopposed, citing its role in consolidating the party’s gains over the years in the Bimbilla constituency.
“We’re adopting this strategy based on the experiences and benefits we have gained. Winning Bimbilla constituency consistently has been possible because we have been going unopposed, helping us consolidate the party’s presence here; otherwise, the constituency might have become an NDC stronghold,” he explained.
He called on party sympathizers to actively contribute towards securing victory for the NPP in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.
In addition, Dominic Nitiwul encouraged all party supporters in the constituency to work diligently to secure over 50,000 votes in the upcoming polls. Addressing concerns about tribal divisions, he emphasized the need to select leaders based on competence and capabilities, transcending tribal affiliations.
Nitiwul highlighted ongoing government projects in the constituency, addressing economic challenges and calling for the support of party members. He urged a focus on national unity, moving beyond historical tribal divides for the greater good of the constituency and the nation.
