The Chief Executive of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Elijah Adansi-Bonah, has handed over 150 metallic dual desks to the Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to public schools in the district.
This brings the total to 500 pieces of furniture presented to the Education Directorate. In August 2023, the Assembly had handed over 350 desks to the Ghana Education Service.
The procurement of the desks, funded from the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund, was in response to a request made by the district education directorate to the Assembly.
The MCE stated that the furniture was intended to help solve furniture challenges facing public schools in the Municipality.
He emphasized his commitment to supporting and promoting quality education in the Municipality through the provision of educational materials, the construction of classrooms, and the provision of furniture to aid teaching and learning in schools.
Additionally, Adansi-Bonah, who became the MCE for Obuasi on May 4, 2017, revealed that the establishment of the KNUST-Obuasi campus remains his biggest achievement since becoming MCE for Obuasi.
He stressed that despite its rich mineral wealth and contributions to the economy of Obuasi, the town had no tertiary educational institution. “I decided to make it a personal project to ensure the KNUST-Obuasi campus project sees the light of day. I am glad to say that the first batch of students and the official commissioning of the project were done in my era.”
He also highlighted the rehabilitation of old classroom blocks and the construction of new classroom blocks, which remained a deliberate policy he instituted and is something he can be proud of due to its impact.
The Municipal Director of Education, George Alfred Koomson, expressed gratitude to the MCE and the Assembly for coming to their aid, indicating that the provision of furniture for the schools would go a long way to improve educational outcomes.
He further announced that seven schools, comprising three Junior High Schools and four Basic Schools, would be benefiting for now.
