Builsa South Member of Parliament, Clement Apaak, has alleged that the public address system during Monday’s sitting of the Public Accounts Committee was sabotaged to prevent the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority from answering a question he was asked about his retirement age.
The PA system malfunctioned for close to 30 minutes, leading to the suspension of the sitting.
A debate ensued among some members of the committee about the question, which was immediately followed by the PA system malfunction.
The Commissioner General of the GRA, Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, was asked about his age, which he was reluctant to answer.
When asked if the malfunction was a deliberate act, the Builsa South lawmaker said some people had an interest in the Commissioner General not answering, hence they manipulated the public address system.
“That is a matter for debate, and some of us believe it was sabotage, while others believe it was just a system malfunction. But whatever the case, the Commissioner General has not been discharged, so even if it does not come today, the question still stands for him to answer.”
“It was obvious that some people were not happy with the question, although it was a legitimate question accepted by the chair, and I suspect that it was sabotaged.”
