Fatimatu Abubakar, the Minister-Designate for Information, has outlined her ambitious plans to host two international conferences aimed at elevating the Ministry’s stature during her vetting on Friday, March 8, 2024.
The conferences, scheduled for May and either August or September, will bring together journalists and key stakeholders in the information sector from across Africa.
The inaugural conference in May, the 3rd African Media Convention, seeks to foster discussions on legislation, policy ideas, and best practices within the continent. The goal is to formulate effective strategies for the information sector’s advancement.
Additionally, Fatimatu Abubakar revealed the Ministry’s anticipation of the arrival of 40 vans for the Information Service Department (ISD).
The ISD has undergone significant transformation through a reorganization facilitated by the Office of the Head of Civil Service, emphasizing the commitment to enhancing information dissemination and communication within the country.
“We are set to host two international conferences, one in May and another somewhere in August or September. In May, we are hosting all journalists and key Stakeholders in the Information sector forum across Africa for the 3rd African Media Convention.
“It is a place where in terms of legislation or proposals for legislation, will be able to dialogue and share policy ideas and get the best situations on the continent and bring it here for Implementation.”
“We are also waiting patiently for the delivery of 40 vans for the Information Service Department. Already, the ISD has undergone a transformation, the office of the head of the civil service helped with the reorganization of ISD in terms of organogram and when we get the tools, we will be able to organise in terms of logistics.”
