Roads and Highways Minister, Francis Asenso Boakye has urged citizens to stop the theft of materials intended for road construction, stressing the importance of public support to the Government’s efforts in attending to the country’s road infrastructure needs.
He laments how such practice is putting financial strain on the Government and also causing project delays.
Major roads in the Kwabre East Municipality, Juaben, Bonwire, Kumawu, Bewkai and the Amansie areas are being rehabilitated after years of concerns over poor road network in these areas by motorists.
Mr Asenso Boakye who led officials of the Road and Highway Ministry to inspect ongoing works assured that the Government is committed to prioritizing road infrastructure in the Ashanti Region and other regions of Ghana.
“I urge the residents here to give them all the support they need. In some areas, contractors will bring equipment and other materials for road construction and before you realise it, some community members have stolen the items, this is not good for the country.”
