Henry Quartey, the Interior Minister, has called on the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to maintain professionalism in their duties, especially in the context of the 2024 general elections.
During a visit to the GIS headquarters in Accra on Thursday, he emphasised the need for the GIS to ensure unbiased, free, and fair elections.
“We are seriously relying on you and please don’t misquote me; we are relying on you to perform your professional duty as GIS before, during and after the elections. And why I am saying so is that we don’t want any political party to say that we are being biased as an interior ministry.”
“Our duty is to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. That is why I am saying if you want to do politics let us know so we can make an application for you to join a political party. So please all of you mind your uniform and work for Ghana our motherland,” the Interior Minister stated.
Mr Quartey also said it was imperative for officers to ensure strict border control to prevent illegal entry of undocumented individuals.
