Anti-Corruption Campaigner Vitus Azeem has called for the arrest of persons involved in the bribery incident during the Ejisu by-election on Tuesday, April 30.
He insists that merely withdrawing the officials and conducting an investigation is insufficient adding that arrests must be made to ensure a robust investigation.
This follows a viral video that captured two temporary officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) receiving what appears to be a white envelope from the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso.
Speaking to Citi TV, Mr Azeem drew parallels with common criminal proceedings, where suspects are detained to prevent interference with the evidence or escape.
“The best thing is to arrest the people, grant them bail and then you can conduct the investigation. It is just like when you accuse somebody of stealing, you arrest them and then do the investigation,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC), has, in a statement, indicated that it has withdrawn with immediate effect, the services of the two temporary officials.
It has also had discussions with the police to kick-start the process of investigation into the matter.
