The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has levelled serious accusations against Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the Chief Executive Officer of National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), alleging his involvement in an illegal voter registration scheme orchestrated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Pusiga Constituency.
At a press conference held on May 22, 2024, the NDC condemned what they described as the NPP’s deliberate attempt to bus non-Ghanaians into the constituency to register them as voters.
According to the NDC, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Pusiga constituency played a key role in this operation, which began on May 8, 2024, at Pulmakuum.
“Despite efforts by the security personnel at the Wedana registration centre on the 8th, to repatriate the foreigners back to Burkina Faso, the NPP resorted to underhanded tactics, sneaking them back into the constituency through alternative routes for registration at Kulungungu on the 9th, solely for their desperate quest for power,” Alale Baba Atimbilla, Pusiga Communication Officer stated.
According to Mr. Alale, the situation reportedly escalated into confrontations involving the NDC party chairman and supporters when they confronted Aludiba.
Further allegations included the NPP’s attempts to incentivize students from the Gbewaa College of Education to transfer their votes to Pusiga with promises of cash and payment of school fees. The NDC warned against such
“deceitful schemes”, urging non-residents to vote in their registered constituencies.
When CITI NEWS contacted the NPP in the constituency, they denied the allegations, describing it as “baseless” and promised to respond properly at an appropriate time.
The NDC also criticized the National Identification Authority (NIA) for rapidly issuing Ghana Cards to foreigners in Pusiga. The NDC claimed that the NIA’s usual slow process had inexplicably sped up, suggesting collusion to aid the NPP in registering non-residents to vote.
The NDC called for an immediate halt to this practice, demanding the NIA uphold the integrity of its operations.
The NDC, through their Communication Officer, Alale Baba Atimbilla, reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.
“We will not hesitate to combat any form of voter fraud or manipulation with resolute determination,” Mr. Alale asserted, vowing to uphold the sanctity of the electoral system.
