Construction works on a multipurpose youth and sports center at Nuwunu near Ho in the Volta region will be completed in February 2019, Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah has assured.
The project was expected to be completed in December 2018 but according him, the contractor faced a number of challenges.
Mr. Asiamah however believes that the first phase of the 10,000-seater multipurpose Youth centre will be operational by February.
Mr. Asiamah said the $2 million project forms part of the government’s efforts to provide Ghanaian youth with opportunities to develop their talents.
The project, which is being executed by Wilkado Construction Works, will comprise a FIFA-standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletic track, a tennis court, a basketball court, a handball court, a gymnasium, a counselling centre, a youth ICT centre, an entrepreneurship centre and a restaurant.
Construction of the facility began in March 2018.
The contractor, Togbui Gbewoaza II of Wilkado construction Limited, said the delay was caused by the state of the ground at the site, which required a lot of work.
“We had to fill and refill to give the land a strong grounding for the facility,” the contractor said.
Togbui Gbewoaza has however promised the completion of the project by February saying “we’ll do a number of things concurrently to Fast track the work”.
