Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, on Thursday, inaugurated a seven-member Project Committee tasked with assessing the current sporting environment in the country and to make recommendations on how to execute a successful 2023 African Games.
The committee is chaired by Deputy Sports Minister, Perry Okudjeto. The other members of the committee include: Hon. Barbara Asher Ayisi, Prof. Peter Twumasi, Ben Nunoo-Mensah, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah, Dr. Beatrice Dwumfour Williams.
Some of the terms of reference of the 2023 Project Team will include the following:
- In charge of the overall national planning for the hosting and organization of the Games
- Engage all African sports governing bodies and identifiable stakeholders to ensure maximum qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
- Engage the African Union Sports Council to finalize the games protocol agreement, timelines for preparatory activities including the global launch and handover of the games flames
Ghana won the rights to host the 2023 African Games in Algiers last year, the first time the country will host the multi-sport event.
