The Coalition of Rotation Nurses and Midwives has called on government to rescind its decision to review their allowances downwards.
The group, made up of nurses and midwives from across the country are also calling for their seven-month arrears to be paid.
Speaking at a news conference in Kumasi, the convener for the group, Samuel Adu Tutu insisted that they will resist any attempt to cut down their allowances.
“The rightful amount for interns, diploma nurses and midwives, per the 2019 single spine salary structure should be paid to us and not the said amount which was claimed to be based on the new salary scheme of AH1 which legally does not exist anywhere,” he said.
The aggrieved nurses also stated that all arrears owed them should be paid in full and not in instalments.
“It is saddening to hear that plans are in place to pay us in two instalments, where we will be paid three months out of the total six months owed us and probably wait for over a period of time before the remaining amount is given to us which we are uncertain,” he said.
“All arrears owed us should be paid us in full rather than paying us in instalments. Our dedication to duty from day one has been in full. We never worked in instalments hence, demand full payments,” he added.
They called on the Ministry of Health to put in place measures to prevent the re-occurrence of such an unfortunate situation in the near future.
“We also call on government to as a matter of urgency start a biometric registration to ensure the timely payment of our allowance and ensure that financial clearance should always be released before posting of health interns,” he said.
The Coalition is a group of rotation nurses and midwives recruited by the government after training to do a year-long mandatory service.
