Northern Region is set to benefit from a 35 million Euro multi-purpose waste management plant to help manage liquid and solid waste generated from the area.
The facility is to be established by waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana limited with funding support from Hungary.
When established, the plant would provide 120 direct jobs and over 500 indirect jobs to the residents.
This was revealed by the Chief Executive officer of Zoomlion Ghana and Chairman of Jospong Group, Dr Joseph Siaw-Agyepong at the Gbewaa Palace when he paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II.
Speaking at the palace, the CEO said the establishment of the plant is to augment the efforts by the Overlord in the area of sanitation.
“I have followed you closely the development you have brought to Dagbon, the peace, how the youth of this place and the Northern Region have all become calm. We all knew how people were using them as vulnerable people to cause problems and to disturb the peace. But through your leadership on the throne, you have brought peace and development. As a result of this, Zoomlion wants to pledge its commitment to all developments you have embarked on in the Gagbon land.”
He commended the Overlord for his initiatives on sanitation and by installing a sub-chief for sanitation called “Subta Naa”.
Siaw-Agyepong pledged to support the work of the chief. He provided a hundred pieces of dustbins to the overlord.
“I have been informed that through your leadership and how you have ensured that peace prevails in the Northern Region as well as the installation of Subta Naa, the chief of sanitation. We are very gratified with this. It shows how development-oriented you are. Zoomlion pledges to support this noble idea. I humbly pledge that we are fully committed to supporting all that you have done here in terms of sanitation.”
On his part, the overlord acknowledged the critical role Zoomlion played for the development of the communities in the promotion of health.
Naa Gbewaa pledged his fullest support to ensure the success of the project in the Dagbon Kingdom.
“I have acknowledged the critical role Zoomlion plays for the development of our communities in promoting the health of our people. Zoomlion Ghana and the Gbewaa palace are working towards the same objectives of improving sanitation in the kingdom. I am therefore assuring you of the fullest support and commitment of the kingdom to ensure a successful project,” he added.
In the run-up to the general elections, Yaa Naa called for peace and cautioned the youth to prevent politicians from using them to foment trouble and also called on the media to play its watchdog role.
