Former Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Hon. Catherine Afeku has denied recent reports that she has abandoned Alan Kyerematen, a flagbearer hopeful of the National Patriotic Party (NPP).
The reports, which were published in some online media outlets, claimed that Afeku had abandoned Kyerematen after allegedly advocating for a “shirt and blouse” strategy for the upcoming NPP Primaries.
However, Afeku has dismissed these reports describing them as “untrue and misleading.”
She said that she remains a strong supporter of Kyerematen and that she has not abandoned him in any way.
“The news about me leaving Alan’s camp is misleading,” she said. “When you look at what is going on currently in the country, you will realize that this is a mischievous attempt to divert public and party attention from the upcoming selection of the NPP’s Presidential leader.”
Afeku explained that the reports were based on a misunderstanding of a statement she made earlier this month.
In the statement, she emphasized the need for the party’s Secretary, JFK, to address the party ahead of the upcoming event, in accordance with the party’s laws.
“We all know that we are going to select our Presidential candidate on August 26,” she said. “We needed our Secretary, JFK, to address the party for the upcoming event, as required by the party’s laws. This is what I said as a veteran in the political terrain, and I said it on July 14, two weeks ago.”
Afeku said that she is grateful for the support she has received from Kyerematen and his team, and she reiterated her commitment to helping him win the NPP primaries and become the next President of Ghana.
