The National Association of Institutional Suppliers is threatening to protest to demand payment of outstanding debts owed its members.
According to the group, the government has not paid its members for the supply of uniforms and house dresses to various senior high schools for the 2022/2023 academic year, a situation that is collapsing the businesses of its members.
Speaking to Citi News, one of the spokespersons for the group, Emmanuel Ayibor, said the group would resort to picketing or demonstrations as engagements with authorities are not yielding results.
“We have some other options that we will go for, but we want to meet NAGRAT, GNAT, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers. We also intend to meet African Education Watch so that they can also put pressure on the government to pay us. If not, we may have to resort to a nationwide strike or picketing.”
Emmanuel Ayibor further called on the government to increase the amount paid per uniform.
“As it stands, the government pays GH¢60 for up-and-down uniforms, which is not enough for us and does not support the future of our business. Considering the current economic conditions, the price would not help us. The cost of materials alone takes up most of that money and does not leave us with much.”
