The Minority in Parliament say they will file a motion for the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, to be summoned before the House to justify the employment figures put out by the government.
The announcement by the Employment Minister on May Day that government has created over one million jobs was met with suspicion from the minority.
According to the Deputy Ranking Member on Employment, Richard Quarshigah, the Speaker will be informed of the minority’s intention by close of next week.
He told Citi News he is confident the Speaker will attach the needed urgency to the issue once their request is made.
“We will request the Minister of Employment to come to parliament to give us a break down of the figures that he mentioned in relation to new jobs that have been created” he said.
“I will file the questions and put the question through the processes early next week before parliament resumes,” he said.
It is unclear what further details the Minority is seeking in that regard, considering that government has released what it calls a breakdown of the over one million jobs.
