“What we have decided to do now with the collaboration of the unit to establish the renal transplanting unit in Korle Bu so that others will have the transplanting here and they will be migrated from the scheme, and they will not come back.”
“In the interim, we are bringing in the specialists from Birmingham in September to have the transplant for four of them who have donors,” he added.
The Head of the Renal and Dialysis Unit, Dr Vincent Boima applauded the benevolence of First Sky Limited, for their continuous support over the years.
He remarked that “had it not been for them, I don’t know what some of these patients would have done.”
Dr Boima also appealed for support from the government to help it deal with the growing number of kidney-related illnesses.
Dr Boima said that the nation’s workforce was at risk of being greatly affected by kidney-related diseases, but his unit was not capable of dealing with the challenge due to a lack of the needed logistics.
He, therefore, wants government’s attention if something is done about the situation.
