Surfline Ghana Limited has fully restored internet services to consumers after a blackout for nearly a week.

This came as the National Communications Authority (NCA) said it had intervened in the impasse between Glo Ghana Limited and Surfline Ghana.

[contextly_sidebar id=”mXHv1EZTmJkcPegy2GG0QNnOMFRihIpv”]The two companies were said to have been involved in a tussle that resulted in the cut to internet connectivity to thousands of Surfline’s customers.

As at 2016, of the 109,124 Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) subscriptions in Ghana, Surfline topped with 81,325 customers representing a 74.5 percent market share.

The NCA said it was key that consumers were protected even during disputes.

He said the NCA had met with both parties and urged them to formally submit their complaint to the NCA for a determination to be made.

Citi News sources at Glo Ghana, which provides the support service for Surfline to deliver its internet service, said there was an outstanding debt to be paid by Surfline to Glo which has not been redeemed.

According to the source, this became a legal tussle, for which a court has ruled that Glo stops offering the service to Surfline.

The source said Glo had attempted on many occasions to prevent such a situation from happening.

The NCA has cautioned Surfline to ensure it honors its obligations to avoid the reoccurrence of the situation and its resultant internet blackout.

“Surfline was cautioned to ensure that they meet all obligations to all stakeholders to avoid a repetition of such issues and to ensure that their customers duly receive the benefits of the services they had subscribed to. The Surfline network has since been restored.”
